Taylor Regional Hospital joins the Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network (MCCAN).

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2020) - Today, officials with Taylor Regional Hospital and the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center announced that the hospital has joined the Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network (MCCAN). The MCCAN is a group of community hospitals in the Commonwealth of Kentucky that provide high-quality cancer services and programs in their communities with the support of the center.

"We are very excited to be a part of the UK Markey Team. Being a part of their exceptional network will enhance the already outstanding care provided at The Cancer Center at Taylor Regional Hospital. We are committed to providing care right here at home for our patients, and now we have a nationally-recognized partner that will help us achieve that goal."

Jane Wheatley, CEO, Taylor Regional Hospital

Located in the heart of Central Kentucky, Taylor Regional Hospital is dedicated to providing outstanding medical care by serving the people of Campbellsville and the regional service area. TRH is a 90-bed acute care facility offering a multitude of health care services including: cardiac catheterization and rehabilitation, diabetes treatment 24-hour physician staffed emergency services, neurology, obstetrics, orthopedics, robotic surgery with the daVinci XI Surgical System, sleep studies, diagnostic radiology, in-house MRI, 3D digital mammography, wound care, a walk-in clinic, and a transportation service for patients. The Cancer Center at Taylor Regional Hospital provides full range state-of-the-art cancer care to residents of the regional area. The Center is on the leading edge of cancer treatment using the latest FDI-approved drugs and state-of-the-art medical and radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer.

The Markey Cancer Center was founded in 1983 and is a dedicated matrix cancer center established as an integral part of the University of Kentucky and the UK HealthCare enterprise. Markey functions as a multi-faceted, multidisciplinary complex with a mission to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality through a comprehensive program of cancer education, research, treatment and community engagement. In July 2013, Markey became one of only 71 medical centers in the country to earn an NCI cancer center designation. Because of the designation, Markey patients have access to new drugs, treatment options and clinical trials offered only at NCI-designated centers.

"Unfortunately, Kentucky ranks at the top in terms of cancer incidence and mortality," said Dr. Timothy Mullett, medical director of the MCCAN. "But by working together with strong medical centers like Taylor Regional Hospital, we have the potential to make a serious impact on cancer prevention and care."

"We are really looking forward to the partnership between TRH and the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network. This will be a very meaningful relationship between TRH and UK; most importantly, this partnership will benefit our number one priority, our patients."

Zewdu Lissanu, Medical Director of Oncology, The Cancer Center at Taylor Regional Hospital

The MCCAN supports UK HealthCare's overall mission of ensuring no Kentuckian will have to leave the state to get access to top-of-the-line health care.

"UK HealthCare doesn't just serve central and eastern Kentucky - our goal is to provide all Kentuckians with the best possible care," said Dr. Mark F. Newman, UK executive vice president for health affairs. "Markey's Affiliate Network lets us collaborate with community hospitals to provide cancer care much closer to home, saving both time and money for patients."
